The 10 Most Dangerous Intersections in Atlanta (2025 Crash Data)
If you drive in Atlanta, you already know traffic can be stressful. But some intersections see far more crashes than others.
We analysed every crash reported in the City of Atlanta in 2025 using public data from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Here is what we found:
- 34,200 crashes in one year, about 94 every day
- 9,432 crashes involved an injury, about 26 a day
- 48 fatal crashes and 473 crashes with suspected serious injuries
Below are the ten intersections with the most crashes, plus the ones where a crash was most likely to hurt someone.
The 10 Atlanta intersections with the most crashes in 2025
| Rank | Intersection | Crashes | Injury crashes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Courtland St NE & Ellis St NE | 116 | 16 |
| 2 | Marietta St NW & Northside Dr NW | 102 | 52 |
| 3 | Peachtree Rd NE & Piedmont Rd NE | 94 | 16 |
| 4 | Pryor Rd SW & University Ave SW | 86 | 37 |
| 5 | Campbellton Rd SW & Fairburn Rd SW | 78 | 20 |
| 6 | 10th St NW & Williams St NW | 77 | 15 |
| 7 | Lindbergh Dr NE & Piedmont Rd NE | 76 | 20 |
| 8 | Northside Pkwy NW & W Paces Ferry Rd NW | 74 | 19 |
| 9 | North Ave NW & Spring St NW | 71 | 12 |
| 10 | Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy NW & Joseph E Lowery Blvd NW | 68 | 29 |
Downtown’s Courtland Street and Ellis Street topped the list with 116 crashes, more than two a week. Most were sideswipes and angle crashes, which are common on busy one-way downtown streets where drivers change lanes and turn across traffic.
Buckhead’s Peachtree Road and Piedmont Road came third with 94 crashes, and was also the site of one of the year’s fatal crashes.
The most dangerous intersection for injuries: Marietta St & Northside Dr
Total crashes only tell part of the story. Many are minor fender benders. When we looked only at crashes where someone was hurt, one intersection stood out.
Marietta Street NW and Northside Drive NW, near Georgia Tech and the Westside, had 52 injury crashes in 2025 — more than any other intersection in the city. About half of all crashes there injured someone.
| Rank | Intersection | Injury crashes | Total crashes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Marietta St NW & Northside Dr NW | 52 | 102 |
| 2 | Pryor Rd SW & University Ave SW | 37 | 86 |
| 3 | Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy NW & Joseph E Lowery Blvd NW | 29 | 68 |
| 4 | 14th St NW & Northside Dr NW | 25 | 64 |
| 5 | Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy NW & Fulton Industrial Blvd NW | 25 | 50 |
Northside Drive appears twice in the top five, and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway appears twice as well. Both are busy corridors where drivers often travel at higher speeds than on downtown streets.
When and how Atlanta crashes happen
The data also shows clear patterns across the whole city:
- The evening rush is the riskiest time. About a third of all crashes happened between 3pm and 7pm, and the single busiest hour was 4 to 5pm.
- Weekdays are worse than weekends. Tuesday had the most crashes of any day; Sunday had the fewest.
- Most crashes are rear-ends and sideswipes. Rear-end crashes made up about 35% of the total, sideswipes about 28%, and angle crashes — which often happen when someone turns or runs a light — about 24%.
How to stay safer at busy intersections
- Leave extra space. With rear-end crashes the most common type, a few extra car lengths gives you time to stop.
- Check your mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes, especially on multi-lane downtown streets where sideswipes are common.
- Be patient with left turns. Wait for a clear gap or a green arrow rather than rushing across oncoming traffic.
- Watch for people on foot. Downtown and Midtown intersections see heavy pedestrian traffic, especially near offices, stadiums and campuses.
- Plan around the evening rush where you can, since 3 to 7pm is when crashes peak.
What to do if you are in a crash
- Check for injuries and call 911 if anyone is hurt.
- Move to a safe spot if you can, and turn on your hazard lights.
- Take photos of the vehicles, the intersection, the traffic signals and any injuries.
- Exchange information with the other driver and get contact details from any witnesses.
- Get checked by a doctor even if you feel fine. Some injuries do not show symptoms right away.
- Talk to a personal injury attorney before accepting an offer from an insurance company.

How we analysed the data
We used the Georgia Department of Transportation’s public Crash Data Dashboard, filtered to crashes in the City of Atlanta between 1 January and 31 December 2025. That covered 34,200 crash reports from both the Fulton County and DeKalb County parts of the city.
Each crash report lists the nearest intersection, so the counts reflect crashes at or near each junction rather than only those inside it.
